When practiced by a qualified Chinese Medicine practitioner, acupuncture is a subtle, yet powerful treatment method that may help patients to manage a surprisingly wide range of common symptoms. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years as an integral part of the primary system of health-care in China.

Acupuncture involves the insertion and gentle stimulation of very fine, sterile needles at specific acupuncture points around the body to correct the flow of Qi (energy) and thereby bring the body back into balance and optimum function. Each treatment is based on the entire pattern of health of each individual patient. This pattern is diagnosed by tongue and pulse diagnosis, careful analysis of objective symptoms, observation and occasionally palpation of problem areas.

Other tools used include cupping and moxibustion.  Acupuncture at our clinic is not normally uncomfortable or unpleasant. Most patients feel some type of sensation such as pressure, buzzing or warmth near the needles and most people find that they feel very relaxed during and after the treatment.

Depending on your unique pattern of health, we may suggest a series of treatments once or twice a week or fortnightly over a number of weeks. Many patients decide to continue with regular (often monthly) treatment as prevention and maintenance.
